Two of my favourite things in the world are the ZX Spectrum and Lego, so why not combine the both. Lego has made a few retro sets now, with the NES and the Atari 2600 but nothing from the golden era of UK computing.

Setting about to make my own version I firstly tried creating a exact size replica, although I could match the size, it was missing a column of keys so I felt I had to make it larger than reality to fit in a full keyboard.

I will revisit this at a future date to see if I can get it any better using some tricks to fit in another key column as I do like the size.

To create the design I used the tool Studio from BrickLink which you can find at https://www.bricklink.com/v3/studio/download.page

All that was needed now was the bricks. A great feature of Studio is that you can upload your design to their site, and then it will find the most cost effective suppliers of the bricks. After a brief wait everything had arrived and time to build

Final result I am happy with, next step is to make instructions using the generator in Studio, however this is a large job and I have to start creating sub models to break it up properly, this page will update when they are ready, to be alerted signup to the newsletter at the bottom of the page, don’t worry, it’ll only be ever very occasional emails when something of interest is made. But for the moment you can open the file at the top of this page in Studio and see each Step and how to put it all together.

Finally what sort of Lego model would it be without a box. I started a design for a box to put the pieces in, I am currently looking at printing this along with the instructions when ready to make a nice gift for fellow retro enthusiasts.
